Yes, there are many sites out there with lists of the ‘ultimate collection of WordPress themes’ or something similar, but there are quite a few of these – so knowing which ones to go to requires some coordination itself. So, that’s what I’ve done – again, it’s as much for my own reference as anyone else’s, because I’m constantly checking through the plugins, themes and tutorials needed to tweak this and the other blogs and sites that I manage. Anyway, the links are:

WordPress theme sites

Smashing Magazine – http://www.smashingmagazine.com

Smashing Magazine is probably one of the best sites out there in terms of helping designers and developers with a detailed range of themes, tutorials, graphics and… everything really! Well worth adding to your favourites/bookmarks. Here are their main themes pages. There are some themes that span their collections, but that’s only to be expected with such a large collection:

Six Revisions – http://sixrevisions.com

Another designer/developer site that describes themselves as, “Six Revisions is a website that publishes practical and useful articles for designers and web developers. We seek to present exceptional, noteworthy tips, tutorials, and resources that the modern web professional will appreciate.”

Tripwire magazine – http://www.tripwiremagazine.com

Hongkiat is another of those sites like Smashing Magazine and Tripwire that provide a range of invaluable advice to the web developer and designer, at all stages of expertise. A sample of some of the posts and guides on the site include:

But there are plenty of other tutorials, tips and tricks covered on the site too, including:

There’s also a very comprehensive list of over 980 themes available on this site HERE, but unlike many other theme sites there’s no preview images just an A-Z of the names. It might be handy as a point of reference though.

Other lists include:

Then there are the theme collection sites themselves – some are good, but others seem to have just endless variations of the basic themes. No one would really choose to have one of these designs when there are so many nicer ones available. Anyway, the theme sites I’ve come across and thought were ok enough to list, are:

Remember, with any of these themes – it’s worth running them through the TAC (Theme Authenticity Checker) to make sure there’s no hidden or encrypted code, or embedded links. Links of this nature are incredibly detrimental to rankings as they’re effectively viewed as link farms… not a good thing from Google’s perspective!
