    About me

I'm a marketing specialist by day, pursuing various technology-based projects in my spare time.

I'm Matt. I work in marketing full time. In my spare time I pursue all kinds of projects — apps, websites, extensions, and whatever else catches my interest. Off the clock I enjoy the gym, time with my family, and walking my dog.

This site is a digital home for what I've been working on: what I've published and a clearer picture of what I do. It's not a commercial venture — if anything, I'm a professional tinkerer. Aside from some basic Google mobile ads in the games I've made, this isn't about building a money-making machine. It's about making things I like using myself, and hoping others get something out of them too.

    The purpose

At the heart of all of this is something pretty simple: I enjoy creative problem solving.

Building an app, website or digital tool feels like a combination of a jigsaw puzzle and a logic puzzle. There's a problem to solve, an outcome I want to achieve, and a collection of technologies, ideas and approaches that might provide the pieces.

The interesting part is figuring out how they fit together.

Sometimes that means finding an API that can provide a missing capability. Sometimes it's discovering a completely different way of approaching the problem. It might involve AI, code, automation, cloud services or an existing platform that can be used in a way it wasn't necessarily designed for.

There's rarely one obvious route from the idea to the finished product.

    That's what makes it creative.

My professional career has largely existed at the intersection of marketing, technology and business, so I've spent years looking at problems through different lenses: what does someone actually need, what would make this better, and how could technology help us get there?

The projects on Cody1 are an extension of that mindset.

They're an opportunity to take an idea, explore what's possible, encounter the inevitable technical challenges and gradually piece together a solution.

AI-assisted development has significantly expanded what's possible. I don't need to be a traditional software engineer to experiment with an API, build an iOS app or create a web application. But the technology doesn't provide the idea, define the problem or make all the decisions.

There's still a puzzle to solve.

And that's really why I do it.

Find an interesting problem. Work out the pieces. Build something that solves it. Then find the next one.

    Marketing

I work in digital marketing, helping brands connect with audiences through thoughtful strategy, creative campaigns and data-driven decisions.

    Building apps

I build iOS apps with SwiftUI — focused, useful tools that solve everyday problems without unnecessary complexity.

    Technology

From AI-assisted development with Cursor to self-hosted homelab setups, I'm always exploring new tools and workflows.

    Web development

I build websites with modern tools like Astro and deploy them on Cloudflare Pages. Fast, simple, and maintainable.

    AI

AI is reshaping how I work and build. I use it daily for development, writing, research and exploring new ideas.

    Self-hosting

I run a home server with Docker, media services, backups and more. There's something satisfying about owning your own infrastructure.
